Freelance focus: meaningful relationships with the lovers
You better have your notebook handy because I’m about to lay down some areas of focus for the next 28 days.
These words of wisdom aren’t mine — they come to you directly from The Universe. If you believe in that sort of thing, that is. Otherwise, just think of this as a prompt card with some interesting cues.
Before we begin, let’s look back on April’s card and take a minute to reflect on what went down.
Last month’s card: nine of wands
Our card for April was the nine of wands. It’s a card that encourages resilience and urges you to push a little harder to reach those goals. Did you manage to achieve what you were hoping for?
The nine of wands is also about setting and guarding boundaries — did you protect yourself enough in April and did the card prompt you to take action you hadn’t considered?
Here are my experiences…
I have to say, I surprised myself in April.
When someone tried to scope creep on a new brief, I told them no and explained why. When a new client attempted to rush a brief through without a writer’s agreement, I pushed back.
Rather than fretting over things and ultimately making my own life hell, I actually felt stronger, more empowered and more confident.
It was miraculous, tbh.
I hope you had the same luck. Come and find me on Twitter and tell me how it went.
The Lovers
This card signifies open communication, honesty and mutual respect. If you have professional relationships that already give you this, perhaps May is the month to appreciate and honour them (not everyone is as lucky!). If you don’t have those relationships just yet, now might be the time to start building them.
The lovers also represents having a clear set of values and beliefs. So let me ask you this…how’s your branding?
Do you have a clear business philosophy and concrete values that you use to guide the trajectory of your business? How would you like your business to be perceived? It might be an ace time to crack open your brand book and view those guiding principles in relation to your career.
If you face a dilemma or difficult decision in May, don’t be tempted to move forward under a cloud of guilt, worry or anxiety. This card prompts you to act from a place of love, even if it means missing out on an opportunity or walking away from something. Keep your integrity intact, my dude!*
Was this helpful? Let me know how you get on with this card and how things went last month. You can find me here!
*Revisiting your business values should help with this, too.
