Freelance focus: accountability with Justice
Welcome, fellow mystic freelancer! I’ve got some pretty tough questions lined up for September — hope you’re ready to explore your values and truths.
Are you a newbie to the Freelance Focus project? The concept is easy: each month I draw a tarot card, and we use it to guide our freelance journey…whatever that looks like for you. Could be journaling, meditation, morning coffee considerations, freelance chats. Whatever, bro. The journey is yours; I’m just giving you the prompts!
You can find all the previous Freelance Focus tarot posts on my blog here.
Before we unpack the challenge for August, let’s look back over the last card we worked on…
Last month: The Knight of Cups
The creative and dreamy Knight of Cups was an invitation to accept inspiration from everywhere and everything.
If you had a creative project, hobby, or passion project, he gave you a sign to go for it. This card was also a prompt to trust your intuition more.
So how did you get on? Did you finally launch that project? Did you follow your heart in August and chase those dreams?
How it went for me…
The invitation to absorb inspiration was a huge thing for me this month. After posting this video and doing some soul-searching, I came to the shocking realisation that I’m too scared to be fully creative. At least, where client work is concerned.
I never feel comfortable enough to go all-in or to experiment. Without those key elements, my work isn’t as true as it could be, and my job becomes more about anxiety than joy.
This month I chose to draw creativity from every source that presented itself. To take special note of new ideas and to embrace the ups and downs of the creative process.
I’m a huge fan of Disney Imagineering, and I’ve started finding new meaning in the YouTube documentaries I regularly absorb — when designing a theme park attraction, there’s a lot of trial and error.
Greats like Rolly Crump and Yale Gracey didn’t always get it right the first time. But they were confident they’d get it right eventually. They took inspiration from absolutely everywhere. Nothing was too zany or too left field.
The takeaway: be more Rolly.
September’s card: Justice
Have you been acting with integrity lately? Following your values and core beliefs in all aspects of your business? This card can serve as a gentle reminder to realign yourself before it comes back to bite you in the arse.
The justice card isn’t all retribution and law. It’s also a card of truth. What’s your freelance truth? Could you dig a little deeper regarding your approach to business and how you’re feeling on the daily? Are you truly happy? Are you leaving a positive impact?
Justice signifies the importance of the decisions you make each day. Remember to ask yourself whether you’re acting from a place of moral integrity because you never know when you’ll need to justify yourself!
Heavy shit, bro. How do you feel about this card?
