Who is she?!

Paul Edmonds is a world-renowned hairstylist and BAFTA member. His creations have appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, international catwalks, and some of your favourite films. Paul has styled the likes of Annie Lennox, Margot Robbie, Keira Knightley, and me.

How it started

In 2020, I was approached by Mark Smith, creative director and founder of Simple Truth, who was looking for a writer to support a new retainer client. We’d previously worked together on the branding for UK-based marina operator, boatfolk, and were keen to find another opportunity to collaborate. Paul Edmonds London was it!

The team needed a retained writer as part of a fractional creative marketing team to create weekly blog content and corresponding email newsletters. They also needed product pages and brand landing pages for the luxury products they carried, as well as ad-hoc website pages. And (as if it couldn’t get any better) they also needed red carpet write-ups each time the BAFTAs rolled around.

As someone big into hair, I was more than happy to sign on.

How it went

I ended up staying with the Paul Edmonds London team for two years, working alongside their staff as part of Simple Truth’s creative marketing team. During that time, we delivered the original requirements, a rewards program, and multiple red-carpet events, promotions, and campaigns.

Heck — I even visited the salon in person to get a haircut from Paul himself. Obviously, I used the opportunity to check out his technique and grill him about his incredibly impressive career and work ethos. Honestly…what a guy!

How we got there

The working relationship Simple Truth had with Paul Edmonds London was very hands-on — we shared a team Slack and were actively involved in shaping their marketing campaigns and content strategy.

I would take briefs directly from Mark at Simple Truth or from the Paul Edmonds London FD himself, often interviewing stylists, aestheticians, or Paul to get professional insights on cuts, colours, and techniques that could be used in the articles.

For brand product pages and landing pages, I’d work directly from press kits and brand materials from the likes of Cire Trudon, Dr Barbara Sturm, Slip, and Shu Uemura.

Red carpet events meant collecting photos and video from teams on the ground working with talent, and interviewing Paul and the stylists afterwards, so I could get the inside scoop on how they’d created certain looks and what inspired them.

Here’s a little taste of the work I did…
