Freelance focus: conflict resolution with the Five of Wands

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but engaging in conflict doesn’t serve me! There’s serious change on the horizon — will you let warring opinions drag you down, or will you be the uniting force that brings the team to success? Let’s find out!

Last month’s card: The Hermit

Last month we were invited to take a step back and spend time in solitary reflection. Did you learn anything new about yourself or your business while you were away?

The Hermit loves to learn new things and is a pretty spiritual guy. Perhaps you used your professional hiatus to take a training course or bring meditation into your business day?

How it went for me

September was a quiet work month for me, but I embraced it. I’d just been handed one of the most exciting jobs of my career, so a clear schedule let me burrow down into research and enjoy the writing process at my own leisure. As someone who packs their work schedule with lots of the same kinda stuff, this chance to write about something I love, in almost religious detail, was wonderful.

October’s card: The Five of Wands

I’m gonna level with you — this card isn’t a cute one. The Five of Wands deals with competition and conflict, which can feel all too pertinent in freelance life.

This card may have popped up as a warning for the month ahead: if you spend too much time comparing yourself to others, you’ll never reach happiness. So let go of that inner competition and focus on your own journey!

The Five of Wands deals with themes of diversity and clashing opinions. This could be a great opportunity to learn to listen to others with compassion (especially on social media!) and then choose your battles — will you educate with kindness, disengage with maturity, or simply rise above it all?

You may find yourself in the clamour of a discordant group during October. Lots of conflicting ideas, lots of change, lots of strong voices. The Five of Wands encourages you to find harmony in that environment and to move things forward in positivity, rather than engaging in a battle of wills!
