Freelance focus: intuition with The Moon
Is this an omen for a bad moon rising? If you’re a regular to the Freelance Focus series, keep reading to find out what the tarot deck has in store for you on your freelance journey this Halloween month.
Hey, wait — are you new? Lemme quickly explain what we’re doing here before you read on. Freelance Focus is a monthly blog series where I draw one tarot card and we all use it to guide our focus for the month ahead. The tarot card isn’t about magic or anything, it’s just a helpful prompt to get you thinking a little differently about yourself and your business.
You can find all the previous Freelance Focus tarot posts on my blog here.
I know all you lunar-tics are excited to move onto The Moon card, but before we do, let’s cast our minds back over last month’s tarot offering.
Last month: Justice
Last month’s card was Justice; a sassy bitch who dishes out karma! For us freelancers, it was a sign to return to our values and beliefs. If shit pops off, could you stand by them?
As a symbol of truth, the Justice card could have been interpreted as an opportunity for you to explore the real reasons you avoid certain jobs, decisions, or clients, and what motivates you to chase others.
It also reminds us that our decisions are important and have ramifications outside of our own business. The message is ‘consider your actions carefully’.
So how’d you get on?
How it went for me…
Without realising it, I took this card to heart. After a particularly dodgy job (that I escaped by the skin of my teeth), I added my terms and conditions to my emails and website.
This gave me a permanent home for my terms and a helpful way for me to cover myself and close loopholes. For what it’s worth, anyhow.
If a client understands how I work and what I stand for, they can make a more informed choice about working with me…for better or for worse!
October’s card: The Moon
Not gonna lie — this is one of my least favourite cards in the entire tarot deck. The Moon card symbolises deceit, anxiety, fear, and deception. ‘Nuff said!
Seriously, though. This card might sound like a Game of Thrones plot but after drawing it countless times, I’ve learned to work with it in a positive way.
It’s a call to listen more closely to your own intuition because the lights have gone out and you’re working in the dark. Your own inner voice is all you have right now and it has to be loud enough to see you through.
So, what does that mean in freelance terms? Listen to your gut, mate! If a job or a client sounds sketchy (or worse, too good to be true), it probably is. Pay attention to your gut this month and try to follow how you feel.
You may also be stuck on a job and floundering in the dark for a route to take. This card encourages you to be still, silent, and to look within yourself for the way forward. Trust yourself!
This card is also a sign that you could be dredging up past trauma and using it to dictate how you act in the present. Are you making business choices or creative decisions based on fears and anxieties from the past? It’s better to work through those feelings and deal with them now or risk being caught in a vicious (lunar) cycle.
