Freelance focus: exploring wealth with the ten of coins
Welcome to your June edition of freelance focus — the cosmic monthly project where we use a tarot card prompt to hone our focus for the next 28 days.
If you’re new here or missed a month, you can catch up here:
If you’ve got your pen and paper handy, let’s look back over last month’s card and then dive into our new focus!
Last month’s card
May’s card was The Lovers and it reminded us to look closely at the open communication, honesty and mutual respect in our professional relationships. Did anything happen that caused you to truly appreciate a great client or cut ties with a toxic one?
We were also prompted to revisit our core values and beliefs in May. When we work on jobs that align with our values, we’re bound to feel much happier. Did you make the time? How did it go?
Here are my experiences…
I got tested real bad in May, especially on the client communication front. A miscommunication on the deliverables for a brand new client kept me awake and threatened to shake my confidence.
In a totally uncharacteristic move, I stood up for myself and did my best to communicate calmly. I took time to try and figure out where the lines got crossed. It all worked out for the best in the end (thank fuck).

Ten of coins (reversed)
This is the first reversed card we’ve had in our monthly freelance focus. Usually, this signifies a reversal of the card’s original meaning but in this instance, we’re in luck. The reversed ten of coins is a reminder that wealth isn’t necessarily the key to happiness.
Have you taken on a big-ticket client job that secretly makes you anxious AF? If so, you need to ask yourself whether the paycheck is worth the turmoil.
When this card pops up, it might be time to stop chasing big bucks and start enjoying the great stuff you already have. When you add up the sum of your freelance career, I bet you have a lot to be thankful for.
The ten of coins prompts you to look at what really makes you love freelancing. If things have started to become all about the money, maybe you need to revisit those core motivations and shift your focus to do more of the stuff that makes you love your chosen career path.
On the flip side, this might be a call to action for anyone struggling with their freelance career right now. You may not be earning enough to make ends meet. Perhaps you feel like you’re about to lose a big client? Either way, this card is a sign that you need to take steps to put yourself back into a stable position again. Don’t worry, fella. You got this!
Does any of this strike a chord with you? How did you get on with last months focus? Give me a shout on Twitter and let me know!
